We have learned our lesson and next time will try to modify our free range chicken-raising system. Happily, since harvesting most of the remaining chickens and herding the geese and ducks into the garage at night, we haven't lost any birds to the owl the past week. We will continue to raise some egg chickens, which go into the coop at night, and perhaps a smaller number of meat chickens next summer.

Becky--my presentations were on the Schools Cutting Carbon program of CERTS (www.cleanenergyresourceteams.org) and on creative reuse of everyday items.
Katie--I am sorry my owl worries have intrude on your sleep!!Susanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13867572450926221667noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655792169976182188.post-7316517197424926302009-09-27T13:40:21.845-07:002009-09-27T13:40:21.845-07:00Wow. What amazing creatures those owls are. It's a shame they won't stick to rodents.Beckyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13936363382703421997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6655792169976182188.post-60675314253030516372009-09-22T22:53:45.659-07:002009-09-22T22:53:45.659-07:00Over here, owls go for smaller animals like rats. ...Over here, owls go for smaller animals like rats.
