He's a Lumberjack and He's OK

Gradually we have been dealing with the mountain of wood and brush created by the big, dead maple tree we had felled. Rog has been arranging the most unwieldy slices of trunk into a big campfire circle. We are contemplating a big midsummer bonfire there.
We have stacked the more mnageable pieces into two woodpiles between trees on the north edge of our yard. It seemed like a good spot because it ids fairly close to our pizza oven, will block someof the northwest wind that whips through there in winter, and will screen the view of the road so the dogs won't bark at passing bikers or other supicous characters passing by.
I don't know if there is a special art to stacking wood, but so far our pile looks fairly sturdy and rather pretty.

Some of the cross sections of the trunk are quite dramatic.

Abstract lumber art.

We'll have to figure out something sculptural to do with these slices.
